Last night I hosted an event that I believe is vital to the artistic experience—a conversation. I invited 17 artists from disciplines across the board to pull up a chair and talk about problems endured in the creative act in something I am calling Artist Assembly. We covered topics in the meaning behind the word “artist,” how we interpret success as an artist, and the good, the bad, and the ugly of social media. It was marvelous, to say the least. If I even had the slightest tickle of not knowing if LA was the place for me, last night annihilated any inkling of distaste for this city. People are here to “stir shit up,” as my friend Tom said while signing up for the group a few hours ago… and that is something I pay special attention to. Los Angeles has more artists than anywhere in the world. It’s a melting pot, and I’ve got a ladle.
Short highlight reel on Instagram: studio.maxima
Studio MAXIMA is not a space, but a tool. It is my most grandiose conceptual art project with real-world impact. An intentional response to the world as it is. A way to pull up a chair and contribute to the kinetic energy that circulates all around us.
An outlet for input.
A moment for moments.
A breath of fresh air… and some paint fumes.
See you next time,
Eli & Studio MAXIMA
Looked like an amazing collaboration Eli. Bringing people together is so vital to making us not feel so isolated. Community is what it is all about! The “artist” lives within all of us!
